Inside Orlando’s Massive New Escape Room Experience on I-Drive

Project Highlights

  • • Prison Island, a global escape room brand, is opening a 40-room adventure attraction on International Drive, next to iFLY Orlando.

  • The new 13,462-square-foot building will be developed by Phoenicia Development, with construction starting in March 2026.

  • • Prison Island will take up about 10,700 square feet and offer interactive “cells” with both physical and mental challenges.

  • A new Chipotle will open on the same site, featuring a curved design and covered outdoor patio.

  • The escape room experience is expected to open by late 2026, becoming one of the largest of its kind in the Orlando area.

A major new entertainment attraction is coming to International Drive: Prison Island, a global leader in themed escape rooms, is launching its first Orlando location next to iFLY Orlando at 8969 International Drive. The new building, set to break ground in March 2026, will be over 13,000 square feet, with Prison Island occupying more than 80% of the space.

The Swedish-based brand is expanding rapidly across the U.S. and has selected Orlando’s I-Drive District as its latest high-traffic destination. The location is near Point Orlando and the Orange County Convention Center, placing it at the heart of one of Central Florida’s busiest entertainment corridors.

What Makes This Escape Room Experience Different?

Unlike traditional escape rooms, Prison Island offers a high-volume, team-based concept. The Orlando location will include 40 interactive “cells”—each a mini escape room with different physical or mental challenges. Guests rotate between rooms, earning points based on performance.

Themes range from obstacle-style adventures like Cliffhanger and Waterfall to puzzles and brain games in Cell Block or Shark Bay. This structure makes it ideal for team-building events, group outings, and parties, appealing to all age groups.

The interior will be custom-built by Prison Island’s in-house team following the shell construction. The full buildout process, including technology and themed components, typically takes around eight weeks.

Who’s Behind the Build?

Developer Phoenicia Development is leading the construction. Architect Paul Medley, based in Longwood, is working alongside Prison Island’s internal architects to bring the design to life.

In addition to the attraction, the site will also include a new Chipotle Mexican Grill on the corner, designed with a rounded facade and outdoor dining patio. It will be the fourth Chipotle location on International Drive and is expected to benefit from foot traffic between iFLY and Prison Island.

A Growing Market for Escape Attractions in Orlando

Orlando already hosts several escape room brands, but Prison Island’s scale and international footprint give it a competitive edge. With more than 100 locations across 24 countries, the brand brings proven success and a strong franchise model.

After launching in the U.S. with locations in Kansas City (2022) and Houston (2025), Orlando is next on the list, making it the third U.S. market for the concept.

Timeline and What’s Next

Construction on the building is expected to begin in March 2026. Once the main structure is complete, Prison Island’s team will take over for the interior buildout. The attraction is projected to open in late 2026.

With its central location and multi-room format, this escape room experience on I-Drive is expected to become a top choice for tourists and locals looking for immersive entertainment.
