A new Home Depot in Horizon West could be on the way.

Site plans filed with Orange County show the home improvement retailer is being proposed for land on Schofield Road west of SR 429, right near the Lake County border. The project would rise on about 17 acres of a larger 62-acre parcel and would sit directly across from land owned by Valencia College for a future campus.

The proposal adds another major retail name to one of the fastest-growing areas in West Orange and South Lake.

Where the New Home Depot Would Go

The proposed store is planned along Schofield Road, in a strategic location near both Horizon West and the emerging Wellness Way corridor. It would also be bordered on the south by State Road 516, the toll road currently under construction.

The rezoning request seeks to change the property from A-1 (citrus rural) to PD (planned development district) to allow the project to move forward.

This location is significant because it sits at the edge of a rapidly developing area that continues to attract housing, infrastructure, education, and retail investment.

How Big Would the Store Be?

Plans show a 134,807-square-foot Home Depot, including:

106,651 square feet of interior retail space
28,156 square feet for the garden center
506 parking spaces for vehicles

For residents, this could mean a much closer option for home improvement shopping. The nearest Home Depot to the site is currently about 10 miles north on West Colonial Drive in Clermont.

One of the most notable details in the plan is the location across from land owned by Valencia College, which has 155 acres set aside for a future campus.

That gives the area even more long-term importance. Between new roads, future education uses, retail expansion, and nearby master-planned communities, this stretch of Schofield Road is becoming a much bigger regional hub than it was just a few years ago.

Growth Around SR 516 and Wellness Way

The project would also sit next to State Road 516, also known as the Lake/Orange Expressway, which is expected to improve connectivity between U.S. 27 in Lake County and SR 429 in Orange County.

That road project is a major part of why this area is drawing so much attention.

Just beyond the site is Wellness Way, a major economic and development corridor in south Lake County. The broader area has already seen major land sales and is planned for up to 19,000 residential units across more than 15,500 acres southeast of Clermont.
