Horse Club at Tavares: New Gated Estate Community Planned in Lake County

A well-known horse farm in Tavares could soon become one of Lake County’s newest gated estate communities.

Orlando-based Elevation Development, in partnership with Waad Capital LLC, is proposing Horse Club at Tavares, a 198-home subdivision planned for 152 acres along Shirley Shores Road near Lake Rooster (also known as Lake Diane). The site is currently home to De Pasquale Equestrian, which is working on relocating its operations.

A Lower-Density Estate Community

The conceptual plan calls for estate-style homes on lots starting at approximately 100 feet by 120 feet. More than two dozen homesites would be at least 14,000 square feet, along with 22 lakefront lots.

The proposed density is about 1.3 homes per acre, and the Planned Development framework includes 50% open space preservation. An earlier version of the plan considered more than 400 homes, but the layout was revised to better align with the City of Tavares’ long-term vision for larger lots and preserved green space.

Amenities Designed Around Open Space

The community would be anchored by a 33-acre central park, along with additional pocket parks, trails, and passive green space. Plans also include a community dock on Lake Rooster and a landscaped gated entrance off Shirley Shores Road.

The developer has emphasized preserving the site’s mature pine trees and is exploring whether portions of the existing equestrian facilities could be repurposed as amenities within the neighborhood.

What Happens Next?

Applications to annex the property into the City of Tavares and secure Residential Estate Planned Development zoning were filed in December and are currently under review.

The development team is targeting a land closing in 2026, with site work and construction expected to begin shortly after approvals move forward.

Why It Matters for Tavares

Horse Club at Tavares sits in a corridor that continues to see residential growth, with nearby established communities like Deer Island and easy access to U.S. 441 and State Road 19. If approved, the project would add nearly 200 estate homes to the area, offering larger lots, lake access, and a gated setting in one of Lake County’s evolving residential pockets.
