What to Know
The Horizon West Library opening in brief
A full-service branch built for one of Central Florida’s fastest-changing communities, designed to blend into the regional park around it.
Grand opening Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. The celebration kicks off Saturday morning at 4657 Hamlin Groves Trail, Winter Garden, inside Horizon West Regional Park.
About 20,000 square feet. The largest branch the library system has built, with a children’s area, media lab, two classrooms, three large meeting rooms and two study rooms.
The system’s 15th branch. Its first new branch in nearly a decade, opening with roughly 50,000 items on the shelves from day one.
The Horizon West Branch of the Orange County Library System opened with a grand opening celebration at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 4657 Hamlin Groves Trail in Winter Garden. The roughly 20,000-square-foot library sits inside Horizon West Regional Park and is the system’s 15th branch, with about 50,000 items ready on day one.
For Horizon West families, the opening ended a long stretch of workarounds. Before it, residents leaned on the Winter Garden and Windermere branches, free home delivery, a book drop in the Hamlin area and library pop-up events at the Waterleigh Community Clubhouse. Since October 10, all of that has moved under one permanent roof close to home.
When and where was the Horizon West Library grand opening?
The grand opening celebration begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 10. The library is located at 4657 Hamlin Groves Trail, Winter Garden, FL 34787, on the east side of Horizon West Regional Park near the intersection of Tiny Road and Hamlin Groves Trail. That puts it between Horizon West Town Center and the Village of Bridgewater, a short drive for most of the community.
The branch shares its campus, parking and outdoor space with the county-run regional park, so a library visit and an afternoon at the park can easily happen in the same trip. Check the library system’s Horizon West updates page before heading out for any event-day details.

What’s inside the new Horizon West Branch?
Inside, the design leans on earthy textures, natural materials and a color palette pulled from the surrounding landscape. The children’s area is themed around Florida flora and fauna, with a special nod to the rare blue calamintha bee, a native species found only in this part of the state. Families also find public computers and a media lab stocked with equipment and software for photography, videography and podcasting.
Two classrooms round out the learning spaces. One is set up for technology instruction, while the other doubles as a maker space for fiber arts and STEM programming, with tools like sewing machines and microscopes available to cardholders.
The children’s area carries a honeycomb and native-bee theme, with hanging wood sculptures, honeycomb-pattern flooring, low shelving and a large bee-and-sunflower mural. Conceptual rendering; the finished space may differ.

For groups, the branch includes three large community meeting rooms that can run as separate spaces or open into one large room, plus two smaller study rooms for quiet work. A reception area between the library and the meeting wing can be closed off, so community groups can use the meeting rooms after hours while the main library stays secured.
The main reading area pairs long rows of pale wood shelving with soft lounge seating and oversized ring light sculptures, room for an opening-day collection of about 50,000 items. Conceptual rendering; the finished space may differ.

What do the outdoor spaces include?
This is where the Horizon West Branch sets itself apart. The library extends into the park with a nature walk featuring a permanent StoryWalk, where pages of a picture book are posted along the path for families to read as they stroll. A musical garden with a percussion pathway invites kids to play along the way, and a Florida native flower teaching garden connects the grounds to the local ecosystem, with a large native oak planned as the visual centerpiece.
The branch also debuts the library system’s first outdoor events and performance area, a stage with grassy seating built for concerts, story times and larger community programs under the open sky.

The Horizon West Branch by the numbers
A permanent library, paired with a regional park, for a community that has spent years borrowing books by mail and at pop-up events.
How long has Horizon West waited for a library?
By our count, about a decade. Library board discussions about a Horizon West branch go back to at least 2016. The board hired Borrelli + Partners as architect in 2022 and approved a ground lease with Orange County that June, allowing the library to build inside Horizon West Regional Park. Residents saw the first architectural plans at a community meeting in March 2023, and their survey feedback helped shape the design.
In April 2024, the board approved an $18.3 million guaranteed maximum price with H.J. High Construction Company, within a total project budget of about $27.3 million. Crews broke ground on November 13, 2024, poured the first concrete in early 2025 and held a topping out ceremony in June 2025. The original target of late 2025 slipped into 2026 as interior finishes, landscaping and the outdoor features came together, which brings us to October 10.
A light real estate read on the opening
Horizon West has grown fast. U.S. Census figures show the community going from about 14,000 residents in 2010 to roughly 58,000 by 2020, and civic amenities have been playing catch-up ever since. A full-service library is one of the clearest signs that the community’s infrastructure is maturing alongside its rooftops.
Jared Jones, who has helped buyers and sellers across Winter Garden and Horizon West for more than 20 years, sees it in everyday conversations: “Families moving to Horizon West always ask what’s close by. A real library, in a real park, is now part of that answer.”
For homes in the villages closest to the branch, including Town Center, Bridgewater and Hamlin, a walkable or short-drive library and park campus is the kind of everyday convenience that shows up in how people choose where to live. It is a quality-of-life story first, not a price story.

The Takeaway
October 10 closes a decade-long chapter for Horizon West. The community gets a 20,000-square-foot library built around its own landscape, with a bee-themed children’s area, a media lab, maker space, meeting rooms and the library system’s first outdoor performance area, all set inside a regional park.
If you live nearby, the easiest move is to grab a library card online and plan a morning visit.
